In this role, you will participate and coordinate in specialized and complex microscopic screening of all cytology preparations for the evidence of cancer, neoplasm or other disease processes. Responsibilities will include:
Screen and render final diagnosis on normal Pap smears.
Identify and mark atypical cells for further review.
Assess and correctly type lesions or entities represented in cell samples.
Assist with fine needle aspiration procedures, prepare slides, stains to render adequacy and triage specimens for ancillary testing.
Recognize integrity, proper processing and staining of the cell samples.
Record cytological findings in the laboratory computer system.
Document quality control and quality assurance findings.
Service a wide range of challenging cases for both Northwell Health System and non-system facilities.
Perform Telecytopathology and image management function.
Participate in Cytology continuing education program and ensure a minimum of 24 hours of educational activities each year
Complies with regulatory agencies, health system and departmental mandatory requirements
To qualify, you will have:
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Basic Science or related field, preferred
Current New York State Education Department (NYSED) Cytotechnologist license
One year experience and/or training specific to the above responsibilities
