Sound Physicians Advisory Services seeks an experienced Physician Advisor (PA) to provide on-site advisory services in support of utilization management (UM) and clinical documentation improvement (CDI) efforts to one of our partner hospital in California. The Physician Advisor is the representative for UM issues related to the acute care stay, supports process improvement, and transitions of care within the system. As a Sound Physician Advisor you will have a schedule to meet the needs of the hospital, typically Monday- Friday.
Provide timely and effective consultation to Case Management, Coding & Documentation Specialists, physicians, and other staff at the hospital, including concurrent assessments with documented determinations and observations.
Counsel physicians and others regarding immediate or planned decisions when overt quality, ethical, regulatory, and/or financial risks may be incurred.
Complete, within acceptable standards, documentation of assessment, determination, and case summary through Resonant Connect, or other means, as applicable.
Serves as a clinical resource on process improvement and best practices, providing recommendations regarding utilization and modification of established clinical guidelines, order sets, and pathways.
Uses a panel of physician experts in areas outside own expertise to bring specialty knowledge to bear on complex situations, e.g. Infectious Disease, Psychiatry, Radiology, etc.
Proactively integrates principles of continuous quality improvement to raise the standard of physician practice and ultimately the practice of the hospital.
MD or DO Licensure within the state of California
Board Certification (base specialty) recognized by ABMS or ABQAURP
Utilization-specific training from ABQAURP (The American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians), or equivalent within 12 months of hire.
Education on application of medical necessity criteria within 3 months of hire
3 years post-residency experience as an advisor - strongly preferred
