DUTIES: The Critical Care Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will coordinate clinical pharmacy services for the Trauma ICU and the Emergency Department. The primary focus will be on providing advanced pharmacotherapy consultation to these areas, along with coverage for the Medical ICU, the Neuro ICU, and/or the Cardiovascular ICU as necessary. The Critical Care Specialist will also serve as a content expert for the health system in developing specific drug therapy monitoring guidelines, providing recommendations on cost effective and safe drug therapy, developing policies and procedures, and creating and optimizing clinical order sets for the electronic health record. Responsibilities will also include distributive, regulatory, and quality assurance activities in the specialty area as required. The Clinical Specialist will also develop, implement and evaluate Department of Pharmacy patient care initiatives within the service line. The specialist will also be a preceptor for pharmacy residents and students, and provide clinical leadership to the clinical staff pharmacists related to patient care activities in their practice area.EDUCATION: A minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must be eligible to receive a pharmacist license in the State of Texas by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
EXPERIENCE: A Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY 1) is highly preferred. A pharmacy practice residency (PGY2) in critical care or emergency medicine is preferred.
SKILLS: Basic data entry skills, excellent English language verbal/written communication skills.
