We are looking for an experienced, board-certified or board-eligible physician with a passion for preserving the quality of life for those who have a limited time to live, ensuring that each patient’s wishes are honored with dignity.
In collaboration with the referring physician, you will consult on symptom management to meet patient needs, including ordering diagnostic tests and prescribing medications and treatments. In this role, you will act as a medical resource for the nurse practitioners, physician assistants and others on our interdisciplinary hospice teams, guiding their work and assuring compliance with the highest standards of medical care. You’ll also prepare and maintain accurate patient records, charts and documents, as well as educating facility staff, co-workers and the community on all aspects of VITAS’ hospice care services.

Graduate of an accredited school of medicine or osteopathy, with a current license to practice medicine in California
At least 2 years of experience, with advanced and ongoing training in palliativehospice medicine, diagnostic skills and symptom management
Board certification or board eligibility, preferably in a medical specialty related to end-of-life care, such as Palliative Medicine, Family Practice, Geriatrics, Internal Medicine, Oncology or Osteopathy
The ability to demonstrate expertise in the principles of hospice care, with emphasis on the control of symptoms associated with terminal illness
Knowledge of interdisciplinary team concept and strong communication skills
Reliable transportation, current California driver’s license and automobile insurance
Registration with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to write scheduled prescriptions
Member in good standing on the medical staff of an accredited California hospital
