As a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist, you will review patient medical records while collaborating with physicians to clarify information and obtain needed documentation to accurately reflect patient severity of illness and risk of mortality. You will also follow up with health team members to ensure accurate and complete documentation in the medical record. Success in this critical role involves demonstrating a thorough understanding of complications, HACs, PSI, co-morbidities, severity of illness, risk of mortality, case mix, secondary diagnosis, and impact of procedures on DRG. You will confer with hospital coding staff to ensure appropriate DRG and completeness of supporting documentation as well as provide reports and identifies trends as needed. In addition, we will need you to achieve and maintain current knowledge and understanding of ICD-10 coding and DRG systems.
QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess: Coding Specialist licensure. Health related Bachelor's degree. Exceptional communication, interpersonal and prioritization skills. Expertise in abstracting and interpreting medical information from patient records. In-depth understanding of the utilization review and discharge planning functions of Medicare, Medi-Cal, and CCS. Strong clinical knowledge. Computer proficiency with word processing and database programs. Ability to write reports and do graphical analysis.
