Provides leadership in the Laboratory, primarily Blood Bank. Oversees daily operation of the Blood Bank. Provides instruction and training to new caregivers and students Maintains accreditation readiness. Develops and implements performance improvement projects and monitors.
Performs routine and specialized laboratory analyses in Blood banking and provides technical advice concerning unusual problems.
Assists in the development of section budgets when requested by laboratory management team.
Ensures efficient completion of department workload through assessment of daily operating needs, and assignment of human and technical resources to meet those needs.
Identifies problems and assists in their resolution.
Actively participates in, and supports, the Quality Improvement program.
Identifies needs for, and assists with, intradepartmental communication in order to provide a consistent two way flow of information.
Assists with training and orientation of new Caregivers and students. Orients and trains current staff on implementation of new procedures and methodologies.
Identifies the need for, and implements improvements within the Blood Bank. Provides recommendations to the Manager regarding the need to restructure systems, workflows and reporting relationships.
Drafts policies/procedures which enhance daily operations and monitors consistency of compliance with these policies.
Monitors daily individual performance and resource utilization, is accountable for the results and provides input regarding the performance of First Line Associates.
Monitors daily Quality, Customer satisfaction and service utilization and initiates short term corrective actions as needed.
Maintains documents and records in a constant state of readiness for accreditation inspections
ASCP certified as a Specialist in Blood Banking, SBB(ASCP).
Minimum of one year of increasing responsibility in a clinical laboratory at the Technologist level.
Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or related field
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of test procedures necessary to perform specialized techniques and test interpretation. Demonstrates communication skills necessary to interact across laboratory disciplines and with other departments in the Health System.
