House Supervisor is a management position with shift responsibility for directing and coordinating patient placement and nurse staffing throughout LBMMC or MCH. The House Supervisor directs and when necessary triages admissions and transfers and makes the final decision regarding clinical unit for patient assignment. The position responds to all customer requests to include patients, families, physicians, and staff in both a collaborative and direct way. Unusual and unplanned patient and staff problems are referred to the House Supervisor for resolution and if necessary referral to executive management and/or Risk Management. Significant events are evaluated by debriefing involved customers and staff, evaluating data, identifying immediate interventions, and consulting with Director or Executive Nurse on call as needed. The House Supervisor responds on the behalf of executive nursing and/or executive management in their absence. The incumbent responds to all hospital emergency codes. During Code Triages acts as the Chief Nursing Officer and Incident Commander until relieved by assigned nurse administrator or hospital administrator. The House Supervisor initiates emergency policies and procedures involving Emergency Department saturation and either no patient beds or no nurse staff to accommodate patient admissions within the medical center.
