Processes all contaminated instruments and supplies in Endoscopy. |
Checks all equipment/instruments needed, prior to each procedure, to ensure proper functioning. Equipment malfunctions, repairs are reported to the GI lab Nurse Manager. |
Cleans and decontaminates all equipment and instruments using the proper tools and cleaning agents. |
Knowledgeable regarding handling and care of instruments and special procedure items. |
Inspects all instruments and equipment for missing parts, items in need of repair. Performs general maintenance of instruments and equipment as needed. |
Isolates equipment and instruments in need of repair; reports needed repairs Endoscopy Manager. |
Performs proper packaging and preparation of all applicable instruments/equipment/supplies for sterilization. Monitors sterility dates on supplies. |
Uses knowledge of sterilization principles to correctly wrap or package items for sterilization. |
Follows written procedures for the cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of endoscopes and related instruments; knows responsibilities and necessity for chemical and biological monitoring. |
Consults with other staff members, when in question or unfamiliar with equipment or procedure. |
Properly loads, operates and cleans all sterilizers. |
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. |
Applies aseptic techniques in daily work assignments. Performs general cleaning of work surface/areas, sinks, sterilizers, racks, shelves and other storage areas. |
Possesses knowledge of and uses personal protective equipment correctly and consistently. |
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. |
Assists with processing department supply charges and any other clerical work related to the Endoscopy, as requested. |
Works closely with Manager of Endoscopy; assists with orientation for new personnel. |
Assists with monitoring and maintaining stock of chemical, linens, peel packs, etc. |
Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. |
Communicates appropriately and clearly to Endoscopy Manager, Sterile Processing staff, and Hospital staff. |
