The facility provides care to approximately 82,000 veterans in the midlands and upstate SC. CBOCs are located in Anderson, Greenville, Spartanburg, Florence, Orangeburg, Sumter, and Rock Hill, and provide primary care, mental health, and telemedicine services. Dorn VAMC is affiliated with the University of South Carolina (USC) School of Medicine and provides teaching services for students and residents. We are seeking a Physician to serve as the Assistant Chief of the Primary Care Service. The position is located at the WJB Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC. This position reports to the Chief of Primary Care and is fully accountable for the effective and efficient management and supervision of Primary Care programs and services. As an assistant service chief, the incumbent is responsible to the Chief of Primary Care for the provision of all primary care services within the main facility in Columbia and all Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) and for the following. Assist in continual building of primary care structure to include Pain Management, Women's Health and additional programs. Implementation of new and innovative ideas and processes to meet the ongoing needs of a growing population of Veterans. Coordination of health care, emphasizing continuity and comprehensiveness, within established VA guidelines, to populations undifferentiated by gender, age, disease and or origin. Implementation of VA/VHA/VISN/CVAHCS initiatives within the scope of primary care services. Develops local standards to evaluate customer satisfaction, clinical quality, and cost effectiveness. Implements outcome-oriented quality improvement programs, which are an integral part of the utilization management and cost-containment processes. Integrates primary care functions of the organization with all clinical services. Coordinates and integrates interdepartmental services. Recommends and implements appropriate policies, procedures, plans and professional standards that guide and support all primary care programs in acute wards, emergency and specialty care clinics. Develops program review and evaluation to ensure that the four dimensions of care are continuously evaluated and improved: Access, Quality of Care, Customer Service/Patient Satisfaction, and Utilization Management/Efficiency of Care in cooperation with Education Service, promotes staff development and training. Encourages and supports appropriate clinical research. Informs all staff of all appropriate information or notices. Assesses and assists in recommending off-site sources for patient care services not provided at CVAHCS. Provides leadership to all clinical services in the provision of primary care services. Serves as a member of various Boards and Committees. Knowledgeable of processes, procedures and Directives; supports all existing safety and infection control practices relevant to this position. Contributes to and keeps abreast of new safety practices as they are developed. Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Some occasions may require work outside of this core schedule as this is a 24/7 hospital facility. Subject to change based on agency needs.
