The West Campus Nursing Specialist is a professional RN who is responsible for: 1) Providing Respiratory care for West Campus Units 2) Acting as a resource for staff to assist with problem solving patient care issues. 3) Acting as the Rapid Response Team coordinator and coordinating with Patient Flow Specialist on East Campus in transferring patients as needed to the East Campus. 4) Providing BLS/ACLS care as needed on the units 5) Mediating any conflicts/issues between staff, patients, and patients' families. 6) Assisting with the continuing education of staff as needed or required by Benefis Health System 7)Assisting with the movement of supplies, equipment, and medications, etc 8) Resource to the units regarding problem-solving patient care issues.

Responds and leads all codes on West Campus

Evaluates and documents patient responses to nursing intervention

Provides Respiratory Care to patients to include: Oxygen therapy, Respiratory treatments as prescribes by physician, cough enhancements, deep breathing enhancements, nebulizer treatments, chest physical therapy, metered dose inhaler treatments, incentive spirometry, flutter valve, positive expiratory pressure, continuous positive airway pressure, bi-level positive airway pressure, aerosol therapy both cook and heated.

Respiratory diagnostics to include: peak flow measurements, obtains blood gas sample, analyzes blood gas sample, pulse oximetry, overnight oximetry, initiate bedside EKG monitoring, recognizes 12 Lead EKG placement, and cares for patients requiring non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP)

Provides staff education as needed.

Works with Staffing office to ensure appropriate unit staffing.

Is a resource for media calls and concerns.

Rounds on West Campus Units and provides support.

Assists with problems with employees, patients, and visitors.

Demonstrates fiscal responsibility.

Maintains records pertinent to personnel and operation of the unit. Prepares reports, i.e., utilization, performance improvement, outcome data.

Participates in patient care.

Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.

Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.
