The Registered Nurse serves as a Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) Coordinator and Educator for Sterile Processing Services (SPS) at VA Illiana HealthCare System. They will provide guidance to staff throughout the medical center and associated Community Based Outreach Clinics (CBOCs). This position will be responsible for the coordination of the facility Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) Program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Development and management of facility- level processes regarding non critical RME. Problem solving, coordinating, monitoring and reporting mandatory and unscheduled training with input from all employees. Performs quality assurance through data collections, direct observation, review of records, and annual review using VHA directives and guidelines. Develops and administers a plan to maintain RME and SPS competencies with staff through the design and facilitation of various education programs. Participates in Medical Center and/or VISN task forces related to RME and Infection Control (IC). Participates in the analysis of data and recommends actions to improve patient care and processes within the medical center. Maintains clinical competencies through study, in services and participating in continuing education units. May be assigned responsibilities as liaison for issues concerning RME and SPS utilization.
