This Chief, Sterile Processing Service (SPS) position for Veterans Health Administration in the Sterile Processing Service of the Montana VA Healthcare System that include Fort Harrison and Billings locations. This position will be supporting the decontamination, preparation, and distribution of the hospital's critical and semi-critical reusable (RME) medical equipment and oversight for non-critical RME with supervisory responsibilities for personnel in the Sterile Processing Service. -The incumbent takes a leadership role on the standardization pertaining to the receipt, processing, storage, and utilization of surgical instruments and endoscopes. Collaborates with medical, nursing, and administrative staff to provide effective sterile processing to include decontamination, processing, sterilizing, high level disinfecting, etc. Meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions. Incumbent consistently communicates and treats customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. The incumbent participates and is accountable for quality assurance program including investigating and resolving quality improvement issues and implements process changes. -The incumbent is responsible for the efficient and effective organizational SPS structure. This includes implementing ways to enhance production, promote team building, and improve business practices. -The incumbent hears and resolves complaints from employees and can initiate disciplinary measures to more serious complaints. The incumbent recruits and hires qualified medical supply technicians (MST). S/he guides and evaluates MST performance. The incumbent identifies problems and facilitates solutions with the MSTs. Identifies training needs and facilitates career opportunities. Incumbent establishes and maintains employee orientation, training, and certification in accordance with standards set by applicable VA Directives, the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM), and the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). The incumbent carries out Equal Employment Opportunity policies and program activities. The incumbent will also develop measures, track and report on sterile processing trends. Incumbent will also review equipment and supply needs to ensure the facility is keeping up with new trends/requirements and processes in the field of sterile processing. -The incumbent will have knowledge of the processes for Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) as required by this position. The incumbent will be required to maintain current knowledge and requirements of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) which document the processes and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RME appropriate to this position. Participating on a variety of medical facility committees (e.g., Infection Prevention and Control, RME Committee, etc.) Work Schedule: 6:00am to 3:00pm Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
