Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Medical Laboratory Assistant II.
In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for the training and scheduling of Medical Laboratory Assistant I. Assists in the daily operations of the laboratory including maintenance of a clean and organized work environment, stocking and ordering of supplies, equipment maintenance and filing.
Trains and schedules Medical Laboratory Assistant I positions. Trouble shoots protocols and recognizes system failures and takes effective corrective action as directed. Adheres to the laboratory's instrumentation maintenance, Quality Control policies and procedures. Ensures refrigerator and freezer temperatures are recorded.
Recognizes unsafe working conditions and takes corrective action.
Attends and participates in staff meetings, unit based quality improvement initiatives and in-services or obtains information presented.
Operates and maintains laboratory equipment in accordance with policy. Accurately sort, label and distribute slides. Documents and logs statistics appropriate to area. Oversees ordering and distribution of supplies.
Maintains laboratory including chemical handling, storage and distribution. Packing, storage and disposal of red bag waste.
Maintains specimens in a retrievable fashion. Maintains archival storage of specimens, blocks and or slides. Documents and logs statistics appropriate to the area.
In the absence of messenger, completes Operation Room (OR) specimen pick-ups in an efficient and timely manner. Retrieves specimens from other ancillary sites if necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned
To qualify you must have a High school or GED.
Current Employee Certification for Hazardous Materials Training and Testing.
1-2 years In a laboratory environment.
Good communication (both written and oral), customer service, and organizational skills.
Basic computer skills including MS Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Medical Laboratory Assist (MLA) certification. 3 - 5 years In a laboratory environment.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
