The role you’ll contribute:
Under general supervision of the Director of Clinical Documentation Integrity and in some situations the supervision of the Clinical Documentation Integrity Manager or the Clinical Documentation Integrity Educator, and in collaboration with physicians, nursing and HIM coders, the CDI Quality Liaison, is responsible for reviewing medical records for quality and core measures. The CDI Quality Liaison facilitates and obtains appropriate and quality physician documentation for any clinical conditions or procedures to support the appropriate severity of illness, expected risk of mortality, and complexity of care of the patient, and to support ICD-10 codes. The CDI Quality Liaison collects data, analyzes data and reports data to CDI Director/CDI Educator/CDI Manager and other market leaders as needed. The CDI Quality Liaison educates members of the patient care team regarding documentation guidelines, including attending physicians, allied health practitioners, nursing, and care management. The CDI Quality Liaison will act as a liaison to the CDI and coding staff. The CDI Quality Liaison will serve as a resource to the CDI team, CDI Educator, CDI Managers and CDI Director. The CDI Quality Liaison adheres to departmental and organizational goals, objectives, standards of performance and policies and procedures, continually ensuring quality documentation and regulatory compliance. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
- Reviews medical record for completeness and accuracy for severity of illness (SOI) and quality.
- Conducts audits for quality including, but not limited to deceased second level reviews, focused disease process reviews as needed, patient safety indicators, CDI team audits. Collects data, analyzes data and reports data to CDI Director and/or CDI Leadership team.
- Completes accurate and timely record review. Recognizes opportunities for documentation improvement.
- Educates members of the patient-care team regarding documentation guidelines, including attending physicians, allied health practitioners, nursing, and care management. Effectively and appropriately communicates with physicians.
- Completes timely follow-up on all cases and resolution of those with clinical documentation clarifications. Formulates clinically credible documentation clarifications. Requests documentation clarifications as appropriate for SOI, Core Measures, and Patient Safety.
- Manages multiple priorities. Participates in coding and Quality Management Meetings.
- Collaborates with coding, infection prevention and quality team to communicate discrepancies in the capture of patient safety indicators, Hospital acquired infections, and Hospital acquired conditions. Communicates with HIM staff and resolves discrepancies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

•Assists in new hire orientation through precepting and mentoring.
•Completion of educational project to be presented to CDI team at least once yearly.
•Functions as a subject matter expert (SME) for CDI.
•Serves as a CDI department liaison to new physician on-boarding.
•Assists CDI Manager with auditing CDS accounts.
•Maintains CCDS credentialing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
•Minimum of five years acute care nursing experience with specific medical/surgical, Intensive Care, post-acute care unit, or Emergency Department experience.
•BSN and 3 years of Clinical Documentation Specialist experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
•MSN or Master or higher degree in a healthcare related field
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED
•Current active State license as a Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physician's Assistant, or an unlicensed physician who has graduated from a medical school that is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (World Directory) as meeting eligibility requirements for its graduates to apply to the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) for ECFMG Certification and examination at the time of graduation.
•CCDS (Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist) certification, or CDIP (Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner) certification, or acquired within 6 months of position
