The incumbent will be an employee of the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) and will function as a member of a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT). Its purpose is to provide Health Technician support to the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). The incumbent will be assigned to the primary teamlets and may provide support to one or more of the other CBOCs as necessary. Staff of the CBOC is organizationally aligned within the Nursing Service Line. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/25/2022. Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR): An IOR is a basic requirement that must be met in order to qualify for entry into this job series, and it is something that can't be waived. The IOR for the GS-05 grade level is: Candidates possess experience that required application of knowledge, methods, and techniques for Health Technician. This position is part of the series that range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. OR; Candidates have successfully completed full-4 year course of study leading to a Bachelor's Degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Basic knowledge of healthcare promotion and disease prevention. Skill in dealing with a large patient population. Proficient in computer skills to support the daily use of the electronic medical record and other computer programs. Knowledge of patient care procedures, medical terminology, use of equipment, manual dexterity to assist physician during procedures. Knowledge of equipment used on a variety of procedures. General knowledge of phlebotomy procedures to include the Vacutainer collection system and used of syringes, butterfly needles devices and capillary puncture techniques. Ability to use various types of phlebotomy equipment (e.g., syringes, butterflies, Vacutainer system). Knowledge of the tube type and amount of specimen required in accordance with test requested. Skill in oral communication in order to explain testing procedures to patients and clarify test request with hospital staff members. Demonstrate procedures and train other staff to perform phlebotomy tasks. Physical Requirements: In addition to the normal, everyday safety precautions characteristic of work in a hospital environment, the work of the position involves long periods of moving about the clinic requiring regular and recurring bending, lifting (less than 40 pounds) stooping and stretching, to move and set up equipment, such as EKG machines, and/or to lift and reposition patients, or similar activities. ["Major duties include, but are not limited to: Assists in patient care under the direct supervision of a nurse manager or designee. Perform a range of direct care duties that may include, but are not limited to such things as performing temperature, blood pressure, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation measurements, measuring height and weight, and patient transfers in support of the primary care clinics. Conducts quality control procedures on equipment and products, and maintains proper records for quality control reports and workload reporting. Prepares and processes specimens, recognizing appropriate test requirements according to laboratory information guidelines for shipping and transport. Performs a range of diagnostic support duties such as taking, recording and reporting to supervisor deviations in vital signs, taking specimens, labeling a variety of specimens for the laboratory. Assists medical staff with or performs diagnostic procedures used to diagnose medical conditions. Determines technical factors, sets controls and operates equipment and instrument.
