The VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) is a Level I tertiary multi campus teaching facility affiliated with the University of Maryland - School of Medicine and over 100 educational institutions. Located next to the University of Maryland Medical Center with a walkway connecting the two facilities, the medical center maintains an active affiliation with the University in the sharing of staff, resources, and technology. Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center is the acute medical and surgical care facility for the VA Maryland Health Care System and offers a full range of inpatient, outpatient, and primary care services. As one of the most modern health care facilities in the country, the medical center offers veterans state-of-the-art medical technology, clinical services, and research programs. It is home to the world’s first filmless radiology department, which allows health care providers to have nearly instant access to patient radiology images from anywhere in the facility and throughout the health care system.
The VAMHCS is currently seeking a Neuroradiologist. The Neuroradiologist will be responsible for interpreting imaging studies and perform basic image guided procedures as defined by the clinical privileges requested and approved by the VA Maryland Health Care System Professional Standards Board (PSB).
Study modalities which you may be responsible for include: CT, MRI, US, general radiography, fluoroscopy, mammography, and nuclear medicine. Examples of basic image guided procedures which you may perform include lumbar punctures, myelograms, biopsies, and joint injections. As stated above, the precise imaging studies and procedures which may be assigned will be defined by the clinical privileges approved by PSB.
Practice emphasis by subspecialty (up to 40%) will be honored as the service needs allow. Specific distribution of clinical responsibilities will be determined by departmental needs. Cross consultation between those with and without subspecialty expertise is expected.
You will be expected to review exam requests for appropriateness, prescribe exam protocols, provide oversight of technical image quality, provide clinical oversight of medication/contrast administration, and actively participate in various aspects of quality assurance including peer review. Required to work effectively with technologist and administrative staff in these tasks.
The department has a teaching affiliation with the University of Maryland – School of Medicine and the radiologist will have responsibilities in instructing and supervising trainees who are rotating through the imaging department.
Qualifications Requirements:
Citizen of the United States.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
Certification in Diagnostic Radiology, Radiology by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or in Nuclear Medicine (NM) either by the American Board of Nuclear Medicine with a background in another medical specialty or with Special Qualifications in NM by the ABR. Fellowship training and certificate of added qualification (if applicable to the fellowship) as defined by the position. Those on time limited Board certification must maintain certification as defined by the American Board or Radiology or American Board of Nuclear Medicine.
